dog food brands at petco
Best dog food for tight budget?

I am on a budget and want to give my dogs the best food possible for the price. I can go to Wal-Mart, Petco or PetSmart for their food. What is the best kind and best value – dry or canned, which brand, etc? My dogs are small and picky eaters, they eat wet food now the pedigree in the pouches but its expensive. If i give them just dry they will starve themselves and their tummies will growl.

Is there a feed store near you. Two brands that offer good value for the money are National and Kasco. Of the two, National is a little more expensive but is also a better food. They are foods that are frequently fed to sled dogs, racing greyhounds and others in a kennel situation where someone is feeding multiple working dogs. Another excellent dog food is Blackwood. Its more expensive than National and I don’t think its better in general but not all dogs thrive on the same foods. It really doesn’t matter what food is rated the best. What is important is how well it works for your dog.

senior dog health care
Trial period with senior dog…?

My family was asked to take in a senior dog who’s owner can no longer care for her (she’s now in a retirement home – The dog is allowed to visit her there, but not live there). The dog is almost completely deaf and starting to get cataracts but otherwise is in good health. The dog knows my teenage daughter and I, but not my husband or teenage son.

We’ve decided to bring the dog home on a trial basis for a week and see how she fares with the family and our cats.

If we decide to keep her, my goal is to bring the dog with me to the retirement home at least once a week so the woman can see her. I go there at least that often anyway.

I’m wondering though if during the trial period, should I bring the dog with me when I go, to see her master, or would it be better to keep the dog away from her until she bonds with my family?

I think it will help the previous owner and the dog to see each other now instead of waiting
