I feed my dog twice a day and buy good food for him, but for some reason he is not gaining weight. He is not sick he is healthy. Any ideas on how can I make him gain weight or what food is good for weight gain?
The first thing to to is go to the vet and have them run a complete blood panel and screen for parasites.
If all that comes back clear and your veterinarian agrees that your dog needs to gain weight (most people’s pets carry too much weight) then you can use a food labeled for “performance” or “puppy” that has a higher fat content to what you are feeding. Ask your vet for recommendations.
Good Luck!
Dog Training & Care : What Can You Feed Your Dog to Help It Gain Weight?
I feed my dogs on the raw diet and they have been doing great. I started after loads of research and decided it was best for me and I wanted to give my puppy a good start in life. Once I learned what was really in most (not some high qualtiy natural brands) dog food I was rather shocked but even with the high quality food I just thought would I want to eat that every day?
I feed Orijen, because until I am able to feed a raw diet, this is pretty much the only dog food company (Champion Pet Foods) that I trust completely.
I thought I could talk to you about fences for dogs and the best one you can get. You really do need some sort of boundary for your yard to tell the dog that they can only go so far. I wish I could let my dog go free and run around where they want, but they just don’t understand the world that they’re living in. For some reason, dogs are drawn to the road and they just want to hang around it and cross over to the other side to see what there is. You need some sort of fence around the perimeter to tell them that they can’t cross this point and I’m going to show you the best one.
I’ve experimented with this personally with my dog and I came to a pretty quick conclusion. I first got a regular fence installed. Something that was made of wood and strong. The dog couldn’t see on the other side of it and I thought this was a good thing. The last thing I wanted was the dog to think they could easily cross the boundary if they wanted to. The problem was the dog would jump up, bark and scratch the fence. They really didn’t respect the boundaries.
I later got an electric fence and this worked much better. This allowed the dog to see outside the boundaries, so they never felt the need to bark at everything they heard. They also respect the fence because it would give a very light shock.
FBI’s Michael Jackson dossier pegged trial as terror target
NEW YORK — Police concerns that media-hungry terrorists would attack Michael Jackson’s trial as a ’soft target’ led to a request for federal help, according to FBI files kept on the late pop star. The documents also show the FBI helped facilitate interviews in the Philippines by California authorities investigating Jackson over allegations that he had sexually abused boys. I am pretty satisfied with commercial dog food and I have no problem sticking with it, but I would just like to know how to make nutritional homemade dog food. My dogs are a golden retriever, beagle, and dachshund if that information is needed. I would like advice also, like what supplements to put in the food, and the right portions, and a professional website would be the best. I don’t really want just homemade dog food that isn’t any better than commercial dog food. Please help out. Thanks.
Do not feed your dog bones, especially cooked bones. Fragments can become lodged in the digestive tract. Canines in the wild who eat bones have the benefit of consuming hair and hide too, which have been found to ‘pad’ the bone fragments and aid in their passing. Other foods to avoid that are dangerous for dogs are chocolate, avocados, mushrooms, macadamia nuts, grapes, raisins, onions, and garlic.

What is the website to see how good a dog food really is?
I have searched for dog foods that would be good for my 10 yr old lab that has high cholesterol. I was going to buy Canidae, but I was talked into another food called Apex (I think thats the name) The first ingredient was Lamb, but the food came in a brown paper bag thing with a sticker on the front. It made me kind of iffy. I fed her the food once and even thought it looked bland, she loved it. I would still like to research it more. The guy said I could bring it back if I had to.
Again, my question is whats a website to compare foods? I have seen it posted on Y!A quite a few times. Thanks in advance!
I know the first ingredient was lamb. Unfortunately the bag is home, so I can’t look at all the ingredients this second. (I am at work)
I actually have a scoring sheet on my website that I use myself. Really comes in handy.
Score Your Dog’s Food
How to grade your dog’s food: Start with a grade of 100:
1. For every listing of “by-product”, subtract 10 points
2. For every non-specific animal source (meat or poultry, meat, meal or fat) reference, subtract 10 points
3. If the food contains BHA, BHT or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points
4. For every grain “mill run” or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points
5. If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five ingredients (I.E. ground brown rice, brewers rice, rice flour are all the same grain), subtract 5 points
6. If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2 meats in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points
7. If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points
8. If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3 points
9. If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points
10. If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2 points
11. If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic to other protein sources), subtract 2 points
12. If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points
13. If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog is not allergic to wheat), subtract 2 points
14. If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog is not allergic to beef), subtract 1 point
15. If it contains salt, subtract 1 point
Extra Credit:
1. If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points
2. If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add 5 points
3. If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points
4. If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points

9. If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points
10. If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point
11. If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point
12. For every different specific animal protein source (other than the first one; count “chicken” and “chicken meal” as only one protein source, but “chicken” and “” as 2 different sources), add 1 point
13. If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point
14. If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are pesticide-free, add 1 point

Dog Food Comparison – Don’t Choose a Food Without Comparing Ingredients First
1 year old dog refuses to poo outside…please help!?
My boyfriend’s family rescued a puppy almost a year ago. The puppy was neglected, malnourished and had a bad case of mange. He was nursed to health and now is their beloved pet.
The only problem with the pup is the fact that he will not poo outside. The family is not lazy and takes him out often… and he will pee. But he refuses to poo outside.
Does anyone know any way that they can help the dog get over his hurdle and learn to go outside?
Thank you!
He was rescued at a couple of months old.
Since this puppy was neglected during the important times of it’s life, you basically have to treat it like a younger puppy. Start a zero. crate train, that will give him a comfort zone and he will have a safe place to go when he needs it. Keep a hawk eye on him, and when you see him poop, teach him not to like you’d do with a new puppy. Never leave him alone in your house, and if you leave put him in his crate. Hopefully, he will learn what he should have during the first part of his life. Most important, give him lots of love. He deserves it
Dog Health Treatment & Advice : What Does Mange Look Like?
Runny nose, watery eyes? Sneezing all the time? Do you have a dog allergy? Maybe your best friend is what’s got your allergies going. After all there really is no dog breed that is truly non allergenic because they all produced dander, urine, and saliva.
Some dogs are less likely to cause allergies because they have less dander. There is a misconception that it is the fur that causes the allergies so the heavier the dog sheds the more likely you are to suffer. This is not the case. It is all about the dander. That is what actually causes the dog allergy.
Urine is generally more of a problem with cats than dogs because dogs go outside. And all dogs salivate. The pet hair becomes a problem when it collects other common allergens such as dust, pollen, dander causing a dog allergy.
The problem goes even deeper than what you are allergic to. You see people with allergies have an immune system that is super sensitive so it reacts to things that are harmless like pet dander. A dog allergy can cause wheezing, fatigue, coughing, headache, itchy watery eyes, sneezing, and in some cases asthma attacks. It can happen as quickly as five minute or be a delayed reaction occurring much later. And some people are allergic to only certain breeds.
There are also skin care products that you can use on your dog to reduce the amount of dander your dog produces. And there are some breeds that just by nature produce less dander so they can be a good choice for anyone with a dog allergy.
There are several things you can do to help reduce your dog allergy. For starters you can choose a natural product to help boost your immune system. You might also consider doing a detox to remove toxins from the body. Over the years our bodies build up large amounts of toxins which affect our immune system and can play a role in it short circuiting.
A dog allergy is just one of the allergies you might be suffering with that are environmental. Keep the dog dander to a minimal in your home. Run a HEPA filter in each room and use a vacuum with a HEPA filter. Vacuum at least once a day and don’t forget to vacuum in the vents where hair, dander, and dust gather. Also vacuum the furniture. HEPA filters make a huge difference.
Keep the dogs out of the bedroom. If you don’t want to close the door then install a baby gate to keep them out. Consider removing carpets and installing flooring. It reduces all kinds of allergies and is a known asthma reducer in children.
Bathe your dog at least once a week and wash dogging bedding and toys once a week. Spray areas where the dogs spend time with an anti allergen spray which helps deactivate allergens. Keep dust to a minimal.
You can also receive immunotherapy allergy shots if testing showed a pet allergy to begin with although it’s not as effective as they would like to see it. You can also use over the counter medications to reduce symptoms and of course there are some excellent natural products that are worth trying if you have a dog allergy.
A dog allergy can develop out of nowhere. Or it can be something you have lived with for years that got worse over the years. Whatever the reason you now suffer with a dog allergy you can reduce the effects of that allergy using natural products and these tips.
