Odoban is a cleaner containing Eucalyptus oil and available at Sam's Club. Our Friend Diane's dog had to be rushed to the vet after sitting on a couch that had been cleaned with Odoban.
Here is her story:
I used the air freshner on my furniture and carpets after vacuuming. I noticed one day my dog woke from a nap on the sofa and was acting strange. Nasal snort and shaking the head. I check her ears and she had a rash. The next day the rash was worse. Her ear was swollen and pus was coming out of it. Later a rash formed on the lips and paws. Then I noticed bleeding lips.
I rushed my dog to the vet. The vet looked at me with concern and said this did not just happen. This must have been going on for weeks. I looked at the vet and said... it started yesterday. I know he didn't believe me. The vet gave a cortisone shot and said the dog had an allergic reaction to something.
I didn't know it was Odoban until my other dog reacted a different time I sprayed Odoban. The nasal snort started and the head shaking with a rash in the ear.
Then I saw the connection because I remembered just having sprayed Odoban.
I wrote to the company but they never wrote back.
Odoban is dangerous around our pets. When I stopped using the product and went chemical free in my house, my dogs never had these problems again.
Just wanted to spread the word about the dangers of Odoban.
Thanks Diane for bringing this to our attention.
