"Outback Jack loves to eat BirkDale PetMix. It provides him with all the strength he needs to win." - Mohawk John

Natural dog food - no chemicals preservatives or fillers - Premium pet food for your dog

If you are at all concerned with your own nutrition you know that the more natural and natural food you can eat the better you are. Research has told us that natural vegetables and meats promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of developing disease. If you have a pet the same thing goes for him or her.

They need natural pet food that isn't packed with unnatural preservatives. They too need natural dog food that hasn't been treated with steroids or chemicals. They need food that isn't packed with fillers like rice and grains, that only fill their stomachs, but don't give them the nutrition they have to have to stay as healthy as possible.

Does this sound good, but you don't know where to look. Look no further than an internet search engine. You will find plenty of naturala pet foods that will promote health in your pet.

Don't you want your pet to be as healthy as you are? Doesn't your faithful companion deserve the same nutrition as you?

BirkDale PetMix.....

Give your dog healthy food for a long life and happy life

This two pound bag makes about 16 pounds of fresh dog food (raw or cooked).

With Birkdale PetMix, your dog gets the nutrients she needs...they are not lost through the manufacturing process. Plus, it is preservative and grain-free which makes it easier for dogs to metabolize, because they are carnivores and have enzymes making it easier to digest and use nutrients compared to eating grains. As a result, if your dog eats a large amount of grain instead of meat, it will be less effective in building up the immune system to fight canine cancer.

In addition, cancer cells use carbohydrates by taking amino acids from healthy cells, so again, it is better to feed your dog meat rather than grains. Protein is necessary for cell repair.

Unfortunately your dog will not get the high quality protein if eating commercial dog food, even premium brands, because they contain a large quantity of grains to boost the protein level.

If there is a fairly high percentage of "meat" in your current dog food, much of it, most likely, comes from spleens, feet, ligaments, intestines, and other sources generally not used for people.

We also learned that meat in dog food, including expensive brands, includes a higher percentage of bones than actual meat, although the combination is labeled meat.

Featured PetMix Recipe:

PetMix Frozen treats:

Make PetMix as directed and ball it up (I use a 1/4 measuring cup) to desired treat size and place on a cookie tray in the freezer. Once frozen these treats can be places in plastic bags. You could use wax paper to separate them but I do not have any problem with the frozen treats sticking together. My dogs love these frozen treats on hot summer days!

Pets are healthier, happier, and live longer when they eat REAL food with REAL nutrients. Our mix provides the foundation for healthy, fresh, homemade pet meals. Below are answers to some of the questions we most often hear about our mix.

Q. Is your homemade pet food expensive?
A. Our mix contains no fillers, so feeding guidelines (found of the back of each bag) recommend feeding less than what traditional pet food might recommend. As a result, the price per day is about the same or less than most premium commercial pet foods - even after you figure in the cost of meat. Not only that, but in the long run feeding your pets fresh, wholesome pet meals can save you money on vet bills.

Q. I barely have time to cook for myself, how can I make dinner for my pets every day?
A. Our tag line is "Homemade Pet Meals Made Easy." Our goal is to make it simple and convenient for you to feed your pets real, fresh meals. If you don't have time to prepare our meals prior to each feeding, you can make larger batches ahead of time and store them in the freezer. Many customers fill containers with 4 days worth of the meat, mix, and water, and store several of them in the freezer, while keeping one in the fridge, ready to serve. Raw meat (especially ground beef) does well for about 4 days in the fridge. As you dish out the last meal from your container, simply transfer another one from freezer to fridge and it will be ready to serve at the next meal. Not only is this method convenient, but it also allows your mixture to soak. You can also add other healthy leftovers, fruits or veggies (before or after you freeze it) to the pre-soaked portion. For best results, remove the food from fridge and wait 15 minutes or add a little warm water to bring the meal to room temperature before feeding.

Q. How much do I need to feed?
A. Use the Feeding Guidelines on the back of the bag for correct amounts of pre-mix, meat and water to use. Measurements are based on one meal per day or if you prefer to feed twice per day, simply cut the guideline amounts in half to create two meals instead of one. Keep in mind that our feeding amounts are guidelines only. You may need to adjust the size of frequency of each meal to meet individual needs.

Q. How long can I expect a bag of PetMix to last?
A. It depends on the size of your pet, BirkDale PetMix contains about 5.5 cups per pound. That means, dogs, an 2 lb. bag of PetMix will last about 2 - 3 weeks for a 26-50 lb. adult dog.

Q. Can I move my pet straight to a PetMix diet or do I have to initially mix PetMix with my other pet food?
A. A gradual transition is the best way to make the switch. When you introduce the PetMix diet, be patient but persistent. Feed your pet a meal of mostly the old food and a little bit of the new mixture (BirkDale's PetMix, meat, and water - preferably soaked overnight). Then each day, gradually increase the amount of this mixture as you decrease the amount of old food. Remember that all animals are different and some may make the switch more quickly and easily than others.

Q. What do I need to add to my Petmix?
A. We call it "PetMix" because you mix it with meat and water for a homemade diet. Our customers appreciate being in control of the meat they use. Aside from water, we recommend USDA beef, chicken or turkey ground or whole from the grocery store or butcher, (10 pound rolls of ground beef are available at Sams or Costco). Always use safe handling methods when dealing with raw meat. In addition, we encourage people to get creative and feed their pet a variety of healthy foods like shredded carrots, beets, blueberries, apples, broccoli, zucchini, peas, green beans, sprouts, bananas, melon, pears, yogurt, and cottage cheese. Veggies should be raw or steamed. Avoid junk food, fried foods, citrus fruits, grapes/raisins, onions and spicy foods.

Q. Can dogs really eat raw meat?
A. Domesticated dogs are related to wolves and foxes. The PH balance in their mouths, the shape of their teeth, and their short intestinal tract are all examples of how the digestive systems of dogs are likewise designed to handle raw meat. Think of zoo animals. They don't eat cooked meat. Buy healthy selections of meat, always refrigerate or freeze, and follow recommended safe handling instructions on meat packaging. If you prefer to brown or cook the meat, add a general nutritional supplement or veggies to compensate for the live enzymes and nutrients lost to cooking. Most importantly, do what makes you feel comfortable.

Q. Why is it so important to soak the PetMix mixture in water?
A. Soaking improves digestibility. Dogs have a strong but short digestive tract designed to quickly break down and absorb foods. Vegetables require more complex digestion than meats, fresh fruits, and other foods so having them soak in water at least 1 hour for the Pet Mix is critical to the success of the Pet Mix diet. Soaking overnight in the fridge or for at least a half-day is ideal.

Q. Is it okay to fee my pet "people food"?
A. Some people think that feeding "people food" to pets will give them diarrhea and turn them into beggars at dinnertime. Depending on what you feed them and where, loose stools and begging can be avoided. Here are some simple guidelines to follow: First, when we say it's great to feed "people food", we are not talking about potato chips, chocolate cake, and onion rings - these things are sure to give your pet a tummy ache. Appropriate "people food" includes fruits, vegetables, nuts, herbs and meat. Second, if your pet has lived on processed pellets his entire life, and suddenly a fresh raw diet is introduced, he may have loose stools for a short period of time while his digestive system "wakes up" and detoxifies all of the built-up chemicals in his body. Once your critter is properly transitioned to a fresh diet, adding other wholesome foods should not cause problems. Oh, and begging at the dinner table should not occur anymore than usual, unless you are feeding your pet directly from your own plate while you're in the middle of dinner. If you always put your healthy leftovers in their dish and place it in their regular feeding spot, begging should subside.

Q. My pet is used to having a full dish all day long. I can't continue to do that with PetMix. Will he starve?
A. Just like people, your pet's digestive system needs time to rest between meals and therefore it is very important to establish 1 or 2 meal times per day. Imagine what would happen to your body if you snacked on a 24 hour buffet, all day long, every day. Free-feeding dogs produces similar results like obesity, digestive issues, bloating, and a general loss of appreciation and excitement that tasty food otherwise produces. To get your pet used to a schedule, simply place his dish out at mealtime (trust us, your pet will know it's dinner time after you've made the transition to fresh, whole foods). If your critter is accustomed to "free feeding" or grazing, he may walk around the dish, pick at it a little, and then leave the room. Remove the dish after 15 - 20 minutes even if he did not finish eating. He will quickly realize there is a new schedule to learn and you both will appreciate his new motivation and drive for healthy meals.

Q. PetMix is all-natural and does not contain preservatives - so how should I store them?
A. You should store your bag in its original package without any problems as long as you keep the product in a cool dry place. Avoid extreme heat or humidity. During warm and humid months, you may want to store it in the freezer or fridge. It should keep for about 12 months.

    Thank you

    by Rosemarie

Thank you. I've been using your power pack and your pet mix for about a year; since my dog had his first mast cell tumor removed. He just had another removed, but I think it was there before the one on his leg but we thought it was just a fatty tumor. It tuned out that there was a MCT hiding inside.

Do you have any stats from users about the effectiveness of the program and the food? My dog Riley hadn't been to doggie day care for months, but when I took him yesterday the staff told me that he looks younger to them every time they see him. I think that is a great testimony, but I'd love to hear any other info you may have.

I don't feel good about chemo because I'm not sure it is worth the side effects.

Any info you can offer will be appreciated. All my dogs scarf your food down as soon as the dishes hit the floor!

    Response from K9 Critical Care

    Rosemarie,
On the website there are at least 50 letters from customers. They all do not have happy endings, but all of them have the same theme. Every dog was helped in some way. Some had their life's extended way beyond every prediction, some only had the last part of their lives made more comfortable. Most people do not share their stories, but I have no doubt what is happening because their first calls are in desperation, and months and months pass and they are still buying supplements and food.

    Great

    by Sandra

This (PetMix) is a GREAT diet even for dogs that don't have cancer. My dog no longer sheds and the stool is minimal compared to dog foods that are mostly grain.

    Bitsie, Pacer and Bubby

    by Bonna

I cannot tell enough people about PetMix and what it has done for my dogs. I have three Bichon Frise, all are rescued. All three dogs come from puppy mill stock and were neglected and/or abused. My oldest is 17 yrs. old and has advanced inoperable mammary gland cancer. My middle pup is almost 13 yrs. old and only has three teeth and my youngest is 9 yrs. old and has food allergies and IBD. So as you can see, feeding them has been a challenge and has involved lots of food changes and experimentation. Oh, and did I mention that the youngest is prone to stones.
While reading letters on a canine cancer list, I ran across information on your product. I was particularly interested as I read that the product also helped dogs with food allergies. I read reviews and reviewed all of the information on the site and decided to give it a try. Instead of ordering online (as I had a few questions), I called to place my order. A delightful lady answered (without a telemarketer voice) and was very helpful. I ordered three bags on the spot, along with some grain-free treats and ProBiotix.
I am here to tell you that my dogs loved it and have been eating it for the last three weeks! I have seen a major difference in the oldest and the youngest. My cancer pup has had more energy and her interest in family activities has increased significantly. She is also deaf and blind, so she tends to find safety spots and stay there. She no longer lies around, and instead, begins whining and "talking" at treat and mealtime. Of most significant improvement, is my youngest pup (food allergies, IBD and stones). We have had NO bloody diarrhea, vomiting, little scratching and a whole new personality, like that of his younger self. And finally, the middle pup only has the three teeth, so he happily gobbles it up, without the difficulties that come with having to gum food bowl contents.
Once again, I want to thank you for your product quality and the support and information your site provides. I have enjoyed the benefits of home cooked food, without intense labor. It freezes beautifully, so I make lots in advance. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
    Sincerely,
    Donna

    Pet Mix

    by Duske and Krysta

    Dear Birkdale Pet Mix,
It's true! My doggie LOVES you! He asks to eat now by standing by the refrigerator waiting to taste you again! He gobbles you up, takes a big drink of water and nestles down in his bed for a nap. His ears are not red and no longer smell ... this is after only 11 days! He has a new light about him and so do I. I feel so much better knowing his body is getting wholesome food.
    Thanks so much,
    Duske and Krysta

    Chita

by Amy, Greg, Max & now Chita

    Tom,
2 weeks ago I told you the story of my 2 goldens and you asked me to E-mail it to you. We found your product while doing research on dog cancer. Our female, Amber had a very invasive form of skin cancer. Unfortunately, we found out too late and lost her 6 months after. Max is our male. He has had a life-long battle with allergies. After lots of tests we were told he was allergic to most animal protein, so I ended up feeding both Max & Amber a vegetarian diet. I now know how wrong that was. Long story short, I started feeding Max your pet mix WITH GROUND MEAT and his skin is no longer pink, his hair doesn't feel coarse anymore, in fact, it feels like a bunny, and he no longer itches. He actually looks healthier. I have a feeling he is going to live to be much older than our dear, sweet Amber did, she was 11 and Max is now 10. Thank you so much for all you do for these great companions we have.

    Pet Mix

    by Nora

    Hi Tom,
I'm writing for 2 reasons. The first is to thank you for this formula Pet Mix. My pug loves it and has no more "itchies" and has lost the desired amount of weight. He's peppy and happy all the time. He thinks he's a puppy again. We love it!! The second reason is I have been mixing in boneless, skinless chicken breast to get the lowest amount of fat since Owen was a porky puggy. Now that he's all svelte and slim, I was wondering how much fat is okay? I used about 1 and a half pounds of turkey with the remaining being chicken in my last batch and he loved it just as much as the all chicken. I don't want to cause future problems by restricting the fat in his diet too much.
    thanks very much
